The Jazz Baker
Originally from Sicily, Gianni grew up with Mario Caramella, voted the best Italian chef in Asia, and trained under Mario Musoni, one of the greatest chefs in Northern Italy. In addition to running Dolcipani, he also taught baking at Wiltshire College, Trowbridge, and cookery at Vaughan's Kitchen Cookery School in Devizes.
Gianni settled with his family in Devizes in the early 1990s, and they quickly became part of the local community. Serving up quality Italian fayre for over twenty years, Dolcipani was a busy and popular mainstay – both for locals and tourists.
In 2014, Gianni took Dolcipani to the regional finals of ITV’s *The Great British Bakery*, where his Napoli bread, unique gooseberry cake, and lively disposition made him a firm favourite with the judges. He also welcomed Sir Terry Wogan and Mason McQueen to the bakery, showing them how he had resurrected a Devizes recipe previously lost for many years – Jane Austen’s favourite, the Devizes Cheesecake. Their visit was featured in September as part of BBC2’s hit show *Terry and Mason’s Great Food Trip*.
Gianni also shared his passion for baking live on the app Periscope as *The Jazz Baker*.
